6th Grade Letter
When I wean’t to 6th grade camp it was suggested for parents to write their son or daughter a letter for them to read once at camp. We were asked by teachers to turn them into them by the morning we left for camp.
I had forgotten about the letter since I was distracted by everything that was going on. It was one of the last nights when the counselors told us to go to living room. We were instructed to finish a page on our camp packet.
Once it was time for the camp counselors to give our letters to us, I received a thick blue envelope with my name on it. I opened it to see that it was a greeting card. The front was dark blue with blue and silver stars around a world in the middle with the words “the world’s a big place…”. The inside was a heart in the middle with the words “but love is bigger” with “just thinking of you, missing you, and sending you some love.” written under the heart. On the bottom right corner in parentheses we’re the words “read back”.
I wean’t on reading the letter written on the back of the card. It said that she hoped that I was having a good time and that she was waiting for me and how she knew that I was going to be successful. I’m still not sure as to what she was referring to.
As I was cleaning my room one day I came across a box. I opened it and found old memories. Old toys, books, merchandise and a card. The one thing that stuck out to me was the greeting card from camp.
I read the letter multiple times and I was able to remember memories as if they were yesterday. I realized that I should always keep the letters.

Ever since that I’ve been keeping letters, birthday cards and notes. I like looking back at them and remembering all the good memories that I have had and what they have taught me to become. All these little moments were able to help me to become the person I am and remember those who love me. I enjoy reading them and have become a symbol of the place or person who gave it to me. They remind me that there are so many memories that are still to happen in the future.
Here is my tip to you if you decide to do this. Don’t keep all the cards sure it seems nice but, the whole point of keeping your cards is to enjoy them and to have as a memory. If your stash of cards are overwhelming it defeats the purpose. It is important to know that nothing is special when you keep everything. But, always keep the (valuable) letters.
